Last week our two young people at Woodthorn View went on a camping trip. Usually the two team members who would be ‘on shift’ would take them away, but the Woodthorn View team all wanted to join in.
They l didn’t want to miss out on making memories with our young people, even when it was outside of their “job role” and they were “off shift”
They didn’t want to miss out on making memories with each other too (it was a major case of FOMO!).
Catherine Rollason has created a home where the young people and team have relationships built on love, trust and care…and it really shows in how the young people have flourished.
It’s not many managers who can say their team would “work” (camp) for free, but that’s what happens when you have a skillful manager, a great company culture and a whole lot of love…it turns from a “job” into a vocation, a passion and a joy to do.

This piece on turning a vocation into a vacation resonates deeply with the growing trend of digital nomads and remote workers. The key, as you point out, is structuring your work so it doesn't follow you to the beach. For those whose vocation involves managing technical infrastructure or AI agents, achieving that separation often requires robust automation and remote management tools. A practical starting point is exploring how to securely run your workflows from anywhere, which you can read about in this guide to container isolation features. That level of control is what makes a true vacation possible.
