Tah-dah… Michelle and her OUTSTANDING team!

Great workers and managers… I wouldn’t have coped without the extra support… they have continued to offer stability and care in very difficult circumstances – with feedback like this, no wonder Michelle Simcox and her team are our award-winners!

ROC Family Support/ROC Support Network delivers personal care and outreach to families on behalf of Stockton Borough Council. We’re CQC Outstanding three years running and our team are still offering outstanding and much appreciated levels of service during the ongoing pandemic.

It’s a challenging service to run and can involve very early mornings and evening house calls.

Lockdown swept us all into unchartered waters and Michelle worked closely with families and the council to establish the best ways of still supporting children with disabilities.

In the end it was down to Michelle and six workers she dubbed her Super Heroes.

The team was also asked to help with new families who were in crisis and needed urgent support to prevent family breakdown. Parents often wept when Michelle called them to say that support has been quickly arranged.

Michelle established a group chat and rang her workers every day, buying them little treats like Easter eggs, flowers and cakes. “Just little things to cheer them up and keep them going knowing I was one step behind them the whole way,” she said.

Lockdown rules meant they were allowed to take children out for an hour and Michelle gave workers letters explaining what they were doing in case they were stopped in their cars or out and about in local parks.

In-home activities included baking and games and workers would shop for some families. “A lot of families still really struggled and asked for more support,” said Michelle. “I would ring the social worker team manager who was brilliant saying as long as I could justify this I could give them what was needed.”

“The workers have been totally fantastic and I count myself an extremely lucky manager to have their support!” Hmmm… seems the feeling is two-way Michelle!
