Virtual discos, VE banner-making sessions, virtual games nights, walks, shopping on behalf of hard-pressed families, mini gardening projects – our Co Durham-based team of intrepid support workers have brought a smile to the families they work with over recent months!
The outreach service is vital to the wellbeing of many families with children with disabilities, providing an important, safe break in their daily routines.
ROC Support Network, which undertakes personal care work, has been awarded CQC Outstanding for three inspections running – a rare accomplishment indeed!
Our 16-strong team works with some very challenging young people with a range of complex needs. Parents have really appreciated being able to have a breather, especially during lockdown.
“They’ve done a fantastic job and I’m so proud of them all,” said service manager Louise Williams.
P.S. The training kitchen at Hope House will be open for cookery sessions with young people with complex needs during the winter months. It will continue to be used as a sanitising station during office hours and then revert to its original use late afternoon.
And we quote:
“Fantastic service provision throughout and the help given has made a huge difference to my clients and their families – thank you!” – Social worker
“As well as arranging additional hours for families already open to ROC, Louise has arranged support for additional families and her response has been extremely quick, helpful and professional.” – Social worker
“The service has been innovative and was able to find a safe way to support the child/family during the Covid-19 period. It helped that manager and staff know the family and child well and parents trust staff with the care of their child at this difficult time. The child is very complex and requires a high level of care. The staff already had an excellent understanding of the child’s needs which helped them quickly put in place an appropriate support package to support the parents who were desperately in need of a break from their caring.” – Social worker
